Lesson: Advanced Passive Constructions (উন্নত Passive বাক্যরূপ)

1. Quick Review: Passive Voice

👉 Active: Someone cleans the room every day.
👉 Passive: The room is cleaned every day.
➡️ বাংলায়: Active-এ কর্তার উপর গুরুত্ব, Passive-এ কাজ/কর্মের উপর গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয়।

2. Why Use Advanced Passive?

  • যখন কর্তা অজানা/গুরুত্বহীন।
  • যখন ফরমাল লেখা/বিজ্ঞান/রিপোর্টে দরকার হয়।
  • যখন জটিল ব্যাকরণ কাঠামো থাকে।

3. Advanced Passive Forms

a) Passive with Modals (Modal verbs + be + past participle)

  • Active: You must complete the work.
  • Passive: The work must be completed.
    ➡️ কাজটি অবশ্যই শেষ করতে হবে।
  • Active: They can solve the problem.
  • Passive: The problem can be solved.
    ➡️ সমস্যার সমাধান করা যেতে পারে।

b) Passive with Perfect Tenses

  • Active: They have done the project.
  • Passive: The project has been done.
    ➡️ প্রজেক্টটি করা হয়ে গেছে।
  • Active: He had written the letter.
  • Passive: The letter had been written.
    ➡️ চিঠিটি লেখা হয়ে গিয়েছিল।

c) Passive with Continuous Tenses

  • Active: They are building a bridge.
  • Passive: A bridge is being built.
    ➡️ একটি সেতু তৈরি করা হচ্ছে।
  • Active: They were watching the match.
  • Passive: The match was being watched.
    ➡️ খেলা দেখা হচ্ছিল।

d) Passive with Infinitives & Gerunds

  • Active: People expect him to win.
  • Passive: He is expected to win.
    ➡️ আশা করা হচ্ছে সে জিতবে।
  • Active: People enjoy playing football.
  • Passive: Football is enjoyed being played.
    ➡️ ফুটবল খেলা উপভোগ করা হয়।

e) Impersonal Passive Constructions

(ফরমাল লেখায় “it is said / believed / thought” ব্যবহার হয়)

  • Active: People say he is honest.
  • Passive:
    1. It is said that he is honest.
      (বলা হয় যে সে সৎ।)
    2. He is said to be honest.
      (সে সৎ বলে বলা হয়।)
  • Active: They believe she won the prize.
  • Passive:
    1. It is believed that she won the prize.
      (বিশ্বাস করা হয় যে সে পুরস্কার জিতেছে।)
    2. She is believed to have won the prize.
      (সে পুরস্কার জিতেছে বলে বিশ্বাস করা হয়।)

4. Examples with Bangla

  1. The book must be finished by tomorrow.
    ➡️ বইটি আগামীকাল শেষ করতে হবে।
  2. A new road is being constructed in our area.
    ➡️ আমাদের এলাকায় একটি নতুন রাস্তা তৈরি করা হচ্ছে।
  3. The project has been completed successfully.
    ➡️ প্রজেক্টটি সফলভাবে শেষ হয়েছে।
  4. It is thought that he is very clever.
    ➡️ মনে করা হয় যে সে খুব বুদ্ধিমান।

5. Practice (Translate)

  1. মানুষ মনে করে যে সে একজন মহান কবি।
    👉 He is thought to be a great poet.
  2. কাজটি আগামী সপ্তাহে শেষ করতে হবে।
    👉 The work must be finished next week.
  3. তারা সেতুটি বানাচ্ছে।
    👉 The bridge is being built.
  4. বিশ্বাস করা হয় যে সে ম্যাচটি জিতেছে।
    👉 It is believed that he won the match.
