Note-taking & Academic Listening (নোট নেওয়া ও একাডেমিক শ্রবণ দক্ষতা)
1. Purpose (উদ্দেশ্য)
- Academic Listening: শুনে মূল ধারণা ও তথ্য বোঝা।
- Note-taking: শোনা তথ্য সংক্ষেপে লিখে রাখা যাতে পরে মনে রাখা ও ব্যবহার করা যায়।
Why important? (কেন জরুরি?)
- Lectures (লেকচার বোঝার জন্য)
- Meetings (মিটিংয়ে নোট নেওয়ার জন্য)
- Research (গবেষণা তথ্য সংগঠনের জন্য)
2. Listening for Main Ideas (মূল ধারণা শোনা)
English → Bangla
- “The main point is…” → “মূল বক্তব্য হলো…”
- “What I mean is…” → “আমি বলতে চাইছি…”
- “In summary…” → “সংক্ষেপে…”
Practice Tip:
যখন লেকচার শুনবেন, প্রতিটি বাক্য না লিখে শুধু মূল শব্দ বা বাক্যাংশ লিখুন।
3. Listening for Details (বিস্তারিত তথ্য শোনা)
Signals to catch (যেসব শব্দ শুনবেন):
- “For example…” → “উদাহরণস্বরূপ…”
- “One reason is…” → “একটি কারণ হলো…”
- “The result is…” → “ফলাফল হলো…”
Example (উদাহরণ):
- Lecture: “Exercise improves health. For example, it reduces stress, increases energy, and prevents diseases.”
- Notes: “Exercise → reduces stress, ↑ energy, prevents diseases.”
4. Note-taking Methods (নোট নেওয়ার কৌশল)
(a) Keywords Method (মূল শব্দ ব্যবহার)
- Write only important words, not full sentences.
- Example: “Climate change → global warming, rising sea levels, extreme weather.”
(b) Abbreviations & Symbols (সংক্ষেপ ও প্রতীক)
- ↑ = increase
- ↓ = decrease
- → = leads to
- eg. = for example
- imp. = important
(c) Cornell Method (কর্নেল পদ্ধতি)
Divide your paper into three sections:
- Main Notes (বাম দিকে)
- Details (ডান দিকে)
- Summary (নিচে)
(d) Mind Mapping (মাইন্ড ম্যাপিং)
- Draw central idea in the middle.
- Use branches for sub-topics.
5. Academic Listening Strategies (একাডেমিক শ্রবণ কৌশল)
- Before Listening (শোনার আগে)
- Preview topic / keywords (বিষয় ও মূল শব্দ দেখে নিন)।
- Predict possible points (সম্ভাব্য পয়েন্ট অনুমান করুন)।
- While Listening (শোনার সময়)
- Focus on signal words (সংকেত শব্দে মনোযোগ দিন)।
- Write short forms / symbols (সংক্ষিপ্ত আকারে লিখুন)।
- After Listening (শোনার পরে)
- Review and expand notes (নোটগুলো পর্যালোচনা ও পূর্ণ করুন)।
- Summarize key points (মূল ধারণাগুলো সারসংক্ষেপ করুন)।
6. Useful Academic Vocabulary (একাডেমিক শ্রবণ শব্দভাণ্ডার)
- Firstly / Secondly / Finally → প্রথমত / দ্বিতীয়ত / সর্বশেষে
- In addition / Moreover → এছাড়াও / উপরন্তু
- On the other hand → অপরদিকে
- Therefore / Thus → সুতরাং / অতএব
- In conclusion → উপসংহারে
