1. Prepositions of Time (সময় নির্দেশক)

Preposition Use Example Bangla Meaning
at Specific time I wake up at 7 a.m. আমি সকাল ৭টায় ওঠি।
on Days & Dates She was born on Monday. / I met him on 5th March. সে সোমবার জন্মগ্রহণ করেছে। / আমি ৫ই মার্চ তাকে দেখেছি।
in Months, years, centuries, long periods He was born in 2005. / They lived here in the 20th century. সে ২০০৫ সালে জন্মগ্রহণ করেছে। / তারা ২০তম শতাব্দীতে এখানে বসবাস করত।

2. Prepositions of Place / Position (স্থান নির্দেশক)

Preposition Use Example Bangla Meaning
in Enclosed space / area The books are in the bag. বইগুলো ব্যাগের মধ্যে আছে।
on Surface The pen is on the table. কলমটি টেবিলের উপরে আছে।
at Specific point / location I am waiting at the bus stop. আমি বাস স্টপে অপেক্ষা করছি।
under Below / beneath The cat is under the table. বিড়ালটি টেবিলের নিচে আছে।
between In the middle of two The bank is between the school and the post office. ব্যাংকটি স্কুল এবং ডাকঘরের মধ্যে আছে।
behind At the back of The car is behind the house. গাড়িটি ঘরের পেছনে আছে।
in front of Before / ahead She is standing in front of the house. সে ঘরের সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে।

3. Prepositions of Direction / Movement (দিক নির্দেশক)

Preposition Use Example Bangla Meaning
to Destination / direction I am going to the market. আমি বাজারে যাচ্ছি।
into Entering a place She went into the room. সে ঘরের ভিতরে ঢুকল।
onto Movement to a surface He jumped onto the table. সে টেবিলের উপর লাফ দিল।
from Starting point I came from school. আমি স্কুল থেকে আসছি।
out of Exiting / leaving He ran out of the house. সে বাড়ির বাইরে দৌড়ালো।

4. Prepositions of Agent / Means (করণ / মাধ্যম নির্দেশক)

Preposition Use Example Bangla Meaning
by Agent / doer of action This book was written by Rabindranath Tagore. এই বইটি রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর লিখেছেন।
with Instrument / tool She wrote the letter with a pen. সে একটি কলম দিয়ে চিঠি লিখল।
about Subject / topic We talked about the movie. আমরা সিনেমা সম্পর্কে কথা বলেছি।
for Purpose / benefit This gift is for you. এই উপহারটি তোমার জন্য।

Practice Sentences (চর্চার বাক্য)

  1. The cat is sleeping on the chair.
  2. I will meet you at 6 p.m.
  3. He came from Dhaka yesterday.
  4. This story was written by a famous author.
  5. She jumped into the river.

  1. Fill in the blanks with the correct preposition:
