Intermediate English Course: Question Forms (Wh-questions, Yes/No questions)

Lesson Objectives (ক্লাসের লক্ষ্য)

  1. Wh-questions এবং Yes/No questions কী এবং কখন ব্যবহার হয় তা শেখা।
  2. বিভিন্ন তথ্য জানতে এবং সংলাপে প্রশ্ন করার জন্য সঠিক ফর্ম ব্যবহার করা।
  3. দৈনন্দিন জীবনের উদাহরণ দিয়ে প্রশ্ন তৈরি ও উত্তর দেওয়া অনুশীলন করা।

1. Yes / No Questions (হ্যাঁ/না প্রশ্ন)

Structure (গঠন):

  • Auxiliary / Helping verb + Subject + Main verb?
Tense Example Bangla Meaning
Present Simple Do you like ice cream? তুমি কি আইসক্রিম পছন্দ করো?
Present Continuous Are you reading a book? তুমি কি বই পড়ছো?
Past Simple Did you watch the movie yesterday? তুমি কি গতকাল সিনেমা দেখেছো?
Future Simple Will you come to the party? তুমি কি পার্টিতে আসবে?

Answering Yes/No Questions:

  • Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.
  • Yes, she is. / No, he isn’t.
  • Yes, we did. / No, we didn’t.
  • Yes, I will. / No, I won’t.

2. Wh-Questions (তথ্যমূলক প্রশ্ন)

Structure (গঠন):

  • Wh-word + Auxiliary / Helping verb + Subject + Main verb?
Wh-word Use Example Bangla Meaning
Who Person Who is your teacher? তোমার শিক্ষক কে?
What Thing / Object What is your favorite food? তোমার প্রিয় খাবার কী?
When Time When is your birthday? তোমার জন্মদিন কখন?
Where Place Where do you live? তুমি কোথায় থাকো?
Why Reason / Purpose Why are you late? তুমি কেন দেরি করেছো?
Which Choice / Selection Which color do you like? তুমি কোন রঙটি পছন্দ করো?
How Method / Manner How do you go to school? তুমি স্কুলে কীভাবে যাও?
Whose Possession Whose book is this? এই বই কার?

Examples in Different Tenses:

  • Present: Where do you study? → তুমি কোথায় পড়াশোনা করো?
  • Past: What did you eat yesterday? → তুমি গতকাল কী খেল?
  • Future: When will they arrive? → তারা কখন আসবে?

3. Common Phrases for Questions (প্রশ্ন করার সাধারণ বাক্য)

  1. Yes/No Questions:
  • Are you ready? → তুমি কি প্রস্তুত?
  • Do you like music? → তুমি কি সঙ্গীত পছন্দ করো?
  • Did she call you? → সে কি তোমাকে ফোন করেছে?
  • Will it rain tomorrow? → কাল কি বৃষ্টি হবে?
  1. Wh-Questions:
  • Who is knocking at the door? → দরজায় কে কড়া দিচ্ছে?
  • What are you doing? → তুমি কি করছো?
  • When does the train leave? → ট্রেন কখন ছেড়ে যাবে?
  • Why is he crying? → সে কেন কাঁদছে?
  • How can I solve this problem? → আমি কীভাবে এই সমস্যা সমাধান করব?

4. Practice Sentences (চর্চার বাক্য)

  1. Yes/No:
  • Do you speak English?
  • Is she your friend?
  • Did they come to the meeting?
  • Will you join the class tomorrow?
  1. Wh-Questions:
  • Who is your best friend?
  • What is your favorite subject?
  • Where did you go last weekend?
  • How do you travel to work?

  1. Make Yes/No questions from these statements:
  • I am reading a book.
  • She likes chocolate.
  • They visited the zoo yesterday.
  • He will help you.
  1. Make Wh-questions from these statements:
  • I am going to the market. → ?
  • She bought a new dress. → ?
  • They are playing football. → ?
  • We watched a movie last night. → ?
  1. Translate into Bangla:
  • “Where do you live?”
  • “Did you finish your homework?”
  • “Why is the sky blue?”
  • “Will you come with me?”
